Guys in shorts, arms crossed - How much can you learn about a club? It's no secret that football clubs are brands as much as they can be cultural institutions today. Premier League teams are as image-conscious as any electronic equipment giant, auto manufacturer or energy business. So when it comes time to unveil the kits for a fresh season, the reveals are handled as carefully as those of gadget, telephone or a new car, with each club seeking to send a message for their supporters as well as to each other. We looked at five of our favourites (one and wild card) from this summer in a bid to learn. The Message: "We Are United" - no matter what happened last year... On the negative, Marouane Fellaini's managed to sneak in to shot like the ghost at the feast, thwacking folks in the cheek. Liverpool Last Season: A surprise title challenge and some of the most consistently amusing soccer in the league couldn't eclipse "that faux pas". Still, second position means they'll return to the Champions League and Suarez will absolutely... oh... The Approach: Despite lacking the multi-pronged approach of these competitors from down the East Lancs, Liverpool's kit reveal manages to cram multiple layers of meaning into a single image. At first glance, it looks like Gerrard, Sturridge and Sterling are stood in front of a red drape - appointment, considering their newly found status as consummate entertainers - but on closer inspection, the reddish backdrop is a shipping container, harking back to the city's storied history as a port. It is an appealing nod to the city 's working class tradition if that rings not slightly true when three multi millionaires are the ones making that nod. Not bad. What they're actually saying: "S Air Force one Supreme.ason 2 of The Wire is in secret the finest one."
